Grog

High-fired clay is ground into a sand-like granular state that is added to the clay body to add strength and workability to the clay. Large amounts of grog are normally present in high-fired clay bodies that are highly resistant to severe thermal shocks, such as Raku and flameware. In the firing process, clay bodies are made more durable, brittle, and impervious.
